Description
Time, gravity and repetitive stress can create a tremendous amount of compression and pressure build up in the joints and muscles of the body. The cumulative results are physical and emotional stress, headaches, irritable feelings, loss of sleep, loss of concentration, low tolerance, low performance, and a weakened immune system. At Highland Chiropractic our goal is to help heal your body back to health! Please call our office today to schedule an appointment.
Thomas Edison so eloquently stated that “The Doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” Hippocrates (the father of medicine) 460 BC – 370 BC “In all disease, look first to the spine.”
It is not a sin to take medication. In a crisis, medication can offer symptomatic support and help to stabilize the body. However, at some point beyond medication, the body will require treatment. Dr. Cannon believes that God designed our bodies with incredible recuperative powers especially when we give it the right structural and nutritional input. Over 2000 years ago, the Bible teaches the importance of maintaining the body’s structural integrity which is tantamount to chiropractic philosophy today. In Hebrews 12: 12,13 the author instructs his listeners; “Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.” Although this verse has profound spiritual implications, the effects of altered gait and body mechanics can have devastating consequences to an individual’s health.
If you are concerned that your spine and body are out of alignment, give us a call.

Dr. Dennis J. Cannon

WHY I BECAME A CHIROPRACTOR
Growing up, I was extremely challenged in school due to a condition called Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). I was viewed by some of my teachers as lazy or that I didn’t care about my grades; which couldn’t have been further from the truth. I didn’t understand why I experienced so many problems academically, and it caused me much depression. In my sophomore year, my math teacher told me, “Don’t ever plan on going to college, because you will never make it.” The problem with her advice is that I believed her.
Years later at 25, I developed serious low back problems. On the weekends I would occasionally drive home from Des Moines, Iowa to my home town in Iowa City, Iowa to visit my family. It was a two hour drive. Many times when I arrived home my back pain would be so intense that I would have to spend the entire weekend nursing my back. A friend suggested that I see a Chiropractor. I took his advise and went to the Chiropractor for treatment before my next trip home. After just one adjustment, I didn’t experience any pain for 2 weeks. I forgot all about the pain. I was so impressed with how powerful an adjustment was. I had previously gone to physicians for treatment and medication, but none of it relieved my pain.
At 26 years old, a young lady invited me to visit her church. I agreed to go. My impression at the time was that the church service wasn’t very momentous or eventful. Later, this young lady approached me and said to me, “Dennis, let the Lord take the steering wheel of your life.” I assumed she was talking about Jesus, because that was who her pastor taught about. I made my decision that day to ask the Lord to take the steering wheel in my life. That same day to my amazement, my depression lifted off me. For the first time in 20 years I had peace. I heard God speak to me later the same day. I didn’t hear an audible voice, but in my heart I heard the words, “I want you to be a Chiropractor.” I was very surprised but overjoyed with this new revelation. Soon after reality set in, and I began to question the validity of this calling. I was plagued by the fact that I barely made it through high school. However,. throughout my college career, I received very high grades and nine years later, I became a Chiropractor. I give God the praise and glory for guiding me in my endeavors.
